🕊 Introducing the Data Governance Program Map

The topic of Data Governance is hard to dive into. Reading DAMA-DMBOK isn’t for everyone. So I’ve created this guide to help you save time and focus on what truly matters. It’s based on over 10 years of my own research and hands-on experience in the field, along with analysis and aggregation of ideas from major Data Governance thought leaders within the professional community.

📃 What is inside the Guide?

The board includes 100+ topics, 100+ ideas and thoughts, 100+ useful links, and 20+ practical exercises. Everything is organized into stages to help you develop or adjust your Data Governance Program, from goal setting to tactical implementation strategies.

There is also a Google Sheets file with a collection of practical exercises I've designed to run series of workshops with your data team effectively.

The guide is free to access. However, If you'd like (for some reason) to copy or edit the board and file, you can easily purchase copyable verison.

🎯 Target Use Cases:

Each stage represents the progression of the Data Governance Program from concept to implementation. Each stage includes “hexagons” (100+) with topics and materials that reveal some of the depth of the stage. The proposed sequence of stages is conditional, designed to help logically structure the subject.

Use the Map:

• as a guide to follow the topics, compare them with your current approach, and find useful ideas or inspiration.
• as a template for your own Data Governance Map — remove anything that doesn’t make sense to you, add your own specifics, and use it as a space to onboard and align people in your company with the Data Governance field.

🤔 Practical Tips:

• Focus on achievable goals - every organization will have its unique blend of initiatives based on its constraints.
• Always prioritize initiatives by their impact, relevance, and the complexity of implementation.
• Adopt the 'Test and Learn' philosophy to prevent the overengineering of ineffective solutions.
